The 2020 Custom Charizard Card and Its Journey
In 2020, we teamed up with a talented Montreal-based artist, Salomé Bertolone López (known online as Lomesart on Instagram), to create a very special custom Charizard card. Our goal was to bring fresh, fan-inspired art into the collectible card scene, blending original design ideas with the excitement of the Pokémon world.
Our 2020 Charizard card was a small-run print—carefully produced and lovingly packaged. Those who got it understood it was a unique collectible, not an official Pokémon product, but a fan-made homage. Each card represented hours of collaboration, from Salomé’s striking artwork to our careful design, selection of card stock, printing methods, and finishing touches.
Unfortunately, not long after we sold our limited batch, a Chinese vendor discovered our design. Without permission or acknowledgment, they began mass-producing metal versions of our custom Charizard card. This blatant intellectual property infringement was disappointing. It taught us a hard lesson about the importance of protecting creative works and the challenges independent creators face in maintaining control over their art online.
Why We No Longer Sell Custom Cards
Because of the intellectual property issues, these blatant thieves—and other logistical hurdles—we decided to stop selling custom cards. The process of working with art rights, managing print runs, and combating counterfeiters was more than our small team could handle. While the genuine “Charizard VMAX card” a.k.a. “2020 anek damian” card remains a cherished part of our history, we moved on to focus on projects that allow us more creative freedom, less IP risk, and a closer relationship with our community.
Looking Ahead: Our 2025 Digital Card Generator Project
Our story doesn’t end with the stolen Charizard card. We’re channeling what we learned into something new and exciting: a digital card generator slated for launch in 2025. This tool will let fans create their own trainer-inspired characters set in a universe reminiscent of Pokémon’s adventurous spirit. This shift to digital not only reduces the risk of piracy but also opens the door for more fans worldwide to get involved, experiment, and share their own creative visions.
